The first year of marriage is a big one. It’s the honeymoon phase where everything can seem magical and scary all at the same time. The excitement does fade ( don’t panic ) because there is so much that can go on during your first year of marriage. The best part of all of it is that you have someone to do it together with! So what are these five things that you’ll want to do before your big anniversary pops up on the calendar? I have a few favorites I can’t wait to share with you!
Celebrate Small and Big Milestones
This is important during your first year of marriage. The big milestones at work are super exciting to celebrate such as getting a great promotion or even finally stepping away from a job that has caused you a lot of pain over the years. Small milestones might even be just a few months of being married! Make it special by booking your favorite first date restaurant or opening up a bottle of wine. It’s worth celebrating and doing it together makes it even more special and important.
Try Something New
Now that the wedding is over you’ll want to try some new things together. Why not try a new hobby or a healthy habit together. What about trying a class? There’s that saying that a ‘couple that sweats together, stays together’ so maybe adding exercise to your new hobby. It’s a fun way to start together as a pair and see how strong you both can get at the end of each month. Trying new things as a married couple will also help keep you accountable for these things too and it’ll keep your life exciting and prevent any wedding blues.
Update Old Appliances
Whether you are buying your own home or renting it, you’ll want to get a few things updated because you’ll be living there together for the next few months or years. This is not something that you’ll want to put it off as it can be a safety hazard to you and your spouse. If you think that old light bulb in the kitchen needs replacing but you unsure who to call, I’d suggest a company that comes highly recommended in the Jacksonville, Florida area called American Electric. it’s run by Master Electrician Mike Murphy who established American Electric back n 1998 with one simple idea which is to provide a high-quality contracting service with the best talent in the business.
Back in the beginning, it was just Mike manning the phones with a home office but now he has a small team of a dedicated and extremely knowledgeable team that is there to help you when you need them. They provide 24/7 care for any emergency that may come up and they are one of the top rated when it comes to project management and safety. You’ll feel good looking at their testimonies that speak for themselves or talk to them today about getting a free quote.
Host A Dinner Party
If you are in your own place together, now is the perfect time to host a dinner party with your closest friends and family members. Just because the wedding is over doesn’t mean the party has to stop right! Invite everyone over to enjoy your new home, enjoy the new recipes that you’re making or try out a new flavor of wine that you found. Either way, it’s great to be surrounded by so many people who are rooting and supporting you and your marriage. Having a dinner party will be just that.
Similar to trying something new, why not volunteer together. You can start with some of your free time together on weekends with helping at a local pet shelter or even helping at your local church. Figure out what your local passions are together and search around your community and your area to find what works best for you. You’ll be working as a couple, a team and also feeling good about what you’re doing for others! It’s a win-win situation.
Now that you’ve read some of these great ideas for your first year of marriage, what other tips or tricks do you have to make your marriage work at least during the first few critical months? Remember the first year of marriage really does have it’s up as well as its downs. I think one of the most important things above all else is giving thanks that you both found one another and can start a life together as a family.
